Booka Shade are going to end their most busy year with a few more novelties. For a start, they’ve remixed the first single to come out of Hourglass, Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan’s new album. The track is called Kingdom and was published in October 5th at Mute Records. The vinyl includes two remixes by the german duo, a club version and a dub version, while the CD single includes just the club remix. Booka Shade made already a remix of a Depeche Mode track, Martyr; so Dave Gahan knew what he was doing when he hired them.

In spite of having had a really mad summer playing at clubs and festivals, Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier had time to deliver a DJ-Kicks compilation. The artists chosen to do this mix-CDs aren’t usually DJs, but musicians, as it happens to be with Hot Chip, Stereo MCs, Four Tet, Erlend Oye and Booka Shade (Tiga or Carl Craig are exceptions to the rule). And that’s what makes this series so special. Walter and Arno have put in their set Cerrone’s seventies disco music, eighties tecnopop from the likes of Yazoo and Heaven 17, John Carpenter’s cinematic moods, the sensual singing of actress Brigitte Bardot, The Streets’ urban beats and Matthew Dear’s techno. The record will be released in October 22nd in !K7.

All DJ-Kicks include in their tracklist a never before released piece made by the same artist who signs the mix, a track that !K7 also publishes in 12” format. Booka Shade’s is called Numbers and is a vocal track, sung by Arno and Walter themselves. The vinyl has also a club remix of the same track and another piece, Estoril, which you can also find in the set. Learn more about the record at www.dj-kicks.com/bookashade.

And that’s not all. Booka Shade are about to start their first Southamerican tour. When they come back to Europe, they’ll play some clubs and start then a new tour that will take them to Australia and Asia. These are their next gigs:

Nov 1st - Terrao Daslu - São Paulo, Brazil
Nov 2nd - Confraria das Artes - Florianopolis, Brazil
Nov 3rd - Pacha - Buenos Aires, Argentina
Nov 9th - Mucuripe - Fortaleza, Brazil
Nov 10th - Espaco Guanabara - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Back in Berlin, Booka Shade will begin working on their third album (after 2004’s Memento, and 2006’s Movements), and a new live show. This tour will begin in April 2008. .
