Vollständig: Spend the last night of 2006 with German legend ATB at the historic Congress Theater

New Year’s Eve is quickly approaching, and this year the night promises to be a fulfilling affair in Chicago. International trance DJ and producer ATB (born Andre Tannenberger in Frielberg, Germany) will perform at the enormous Congress Theater as part of Purefuture’s Resolve 2007 party -- and despite the plethora of events taking place downtown, his show is the only one open to those who are 18 and older.

ATB is respected worldwide since the song “9 P.M. (Till I Come)” dropped in 1999 on the album Movin’ Melodies, but that wasn’t the beginning of his career. “I had, already in my early boyhood, the idea of producing melodic electronic music for the dancefloor,” ATB says. “I had, also very early -- at 19 years [old] in 1993 -- [signed] my first record contract and could make my hobby a job from there on.”

After gaining momentum, ATB went on to release multiple albums and mix CDs, but has had trouble creating the same buzz stateside as on that 1999 release. Yet, that says nothing about his abilities (he was recently rated No. 9 on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 list) or the quality of his music, which is a distinctive blend of trance, house and ambient. “In my opinion, especially the electronic area gives a lot of possibilities to experiment,” he explains. “The most difficult thing is to create your own sound, reinvent yourself, and stay identifiable all the time. That was always my major aim.”

ATB’s music is identifiable among the multitude of current electronic artists, even as he explores and tries to avoid monotony. He also seems to prefer songs that are upbeat and cheerful, which are ideal for a celebration. Congress Theater is a picturesque setting for the event, and the night will undoubtedly be unique to the Windy City. “[Chicago] is a highlight on every U.S. tour,” ATB says. “The crowd is [always] in an extremely good mood and understands my music. What more should I want?”

Erik K, M Project and Mui, and Ryan B are scheduled to perform in the main room before ATB, and other DJs will spin in the lobby and third room all night long. There are three different ticket brackets to suit your specific needs. General admission tickets are $35, but are extremely limited. Then there is a $75 gold VIP package (open bar from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m., express entry, VIP bathrooms, balcony access, midnight champagne toast and party favors), and a $110 platinum VIP package (gold package perks, plus exclusive onstage VIP area with bar, bartenders, servers and cocktail tables). Tickets are available at wantickets.com/purefuture, as well as at Chicago area locations, including Grammaphone Records (2843 N. Clark, 312/773-5354), Markski Stores (5745 W. Belmont, 773/889-5400), Markski/Europe Music (5106 S. Archer, 773/838-8448) and Another Level in Orland Park and Schaumburg.

Resolve New Year’s Eve 2007 featuring ATB will take place December 31 at Congress Theater (2135 N. Milwaukee, 773/486-6672); congresschicago.com.
