Mixed by Franky Rizardo and Roul & Doors - Azuli Amsterdam 2011.
The Dutch House sound is now undeniably one of the biggest currencies in global dance music.
There are many cities in the world that have their moments in music and it’s fair to say that Holland, especially Amsterdam has burst through and created its own individual vibe, energy and sound. There is something about Holland that is making it akin to a mighty machine of Dance music, relentlessly emitting world class talent. The club scene is vibrant and in immaculate health, it even hosts Europe’s must go to dance music event ADE. Who could question the rise of a certain Laidback Dutchman, Afrojack or even Sidney Sampson all spearheading a national crusade to take over the worlds download portals, stadiums and dance floors. You have to celebrate the fact that these guys have put the spotlight on Amsterdam and cleared the way for a new set of fresh DJs to push through and make their mark. Two of these unquestionable standout talents are Franky Rizardo & Roul and Doors, The Netherlands brightest young producer /DJs and future big names now showcased by Azuli.
Franky Rizardo, is a burgeoning star, already a close collaborator with Sidney Sampson and a whole host of other big Dutch DJs. He’s already delivered remixes for Erick E, Sander Van Doorn, and Fedde Le Grand and recently worked alongside Bart B More. His focus on quality drum programming and exploration of Latin percussion and tribal rhythms sets him apart. His recent release ‘Caracoles’ sounded like something that DJ Gregory may have crafted, sophisticated Afro beats beautifully delivered by an exciting new artist.
It’s not just Frankie that is drawing attention to themselves, meet Roul & Doors, the DJ/production duo well known for big anthems and key players in representing the Dutch House sound. They count Teisto, Steve Angello, Felix Da Housecat amongst their supporters and their releases always punch through to the top of the dance charts. Just check out their lethal EPs; Forget/Gita and Trinidad plus remixes for Bob Sinclar’s ‘Far L’amore’ and Guy’s Robin’s ‘Only You’ are on the cutting table.
Both acts have now delivered exceptional and diverse mixes for Azuli, accurately reflecting Holland’s club sound and which includes the tracks that will be consuming dance floors all over ADE.
Frankie Rizardo’s mix kicks off with Steffi – Yours, quite possible one of the biggest deep and soulful tracks of the summer. Then he lets the Latin drum flavours ring through with his own edits of Hardsoul – Rise Of Life and Oliver Klein and Kolombo – ‘Gonna Be’. All these tracks being completely exclusive to the compilation along with brand new tracks: Groovenatics and Jaz Von D – Our Screen and Gregor Salto and Miguel O’Syrah – 23.
Roul and Doors have collated a varied mix packed with exclusive mash-ups and no less than seven of their own exclusive edits including the Virus J Remix of Kings Of Tomorrow – I Need To Love Me, Soul Cartel – Marimba, Aldair Silva – Nigini and Copyright – Melodies (Roul and Doors Edit). The have also reimagined the massive Defected hit ‘The Trumpeter’ and have made the mix completely their own with mash-ups of Gita and ‘The Good Men’ and Night Of 1000 Trumpets vs. Gregor Salto – Messe Messe (Afro Dub).
If you are looking for a mix that can perfectly encapsulate the current sound emanating from the new capital of House Music then this is an essential listen.
